This incredible fish is considered the biggest of the world and can reach 21m of length, swimming in tropical temperate waters.
The size is HUGE especially up-close, it is blue colored with white dots (similar to the game stones of DOMINO, that is also why locally they are know as DOMINOS).
They visit the local waters of HOLBOX from May to September. Eco Tours organized by local companies like HOTEL CASA LAS TORTUGAS give their contribution to a local organization that does research for this mysterious giant.
The RHINCODON TYPUS (Latin name of the WHALE-SHARK) is completely harmless. The Whale-shark eats only plankton and does that by swimming with is mouth open all the time and filtering the plankton from the water through its keels.
A strange mutual interest is establishing between fish and man, like it is surprised of all this special attention.
